Police procedural

Police procedural is a subgenre of procedural drama. Police procedural is an investigative procedure of a police officer. A good police procedural I have seen is project power, it is very captivating and it shows you how an ex-military officer teams up with a police officer to find the source of the pill that gives you superpowers and kill him.

Analysing The Avengers

In the first 5 minutes of the avengers a lot happens. The main male character walks out of the ocean in a bin bag. This person is still looking classy even after walking out the ocean. He then goes back to her house and the main man and woman also start fencing and then he hits her, you would never get away with hitting someone in a workplace now you would just be fired. Also the main female character also wears very tight clothing to show off her beauty and the men all wear smart hats and smart suits and always look very classy.

Prep

One way in which these two music videos differ is that one is very hard rock (sk8er boi) and the other one is more of a soft rock music (teenage dirt bag) which is all about a boy wanting a girl who doesn’t like him back. Sk8er boi is all about a girl singing about a boy who doesn’t like a girl but in a much more aggressive manner compared to teenage dirt bag as it has people smashing car windows and many people gathering in a massive group singing along to her song that she is singing. In conclusion I think the way these two videos differ is that one of them is more punk rock and the other is more soft rock.

cuffs q1 and q2

PREP Watch this extract of Cuffs on Clickview: chapter 5

Answer the following 2 exam questions on your blog:

Analyse how camerawork is used in the extract to create meaning. Refer to at least two examples from the extract in your answer. (5 marks)

2. Analyse how far the extract creates a humorous view of policing. In your answer you must:

  • analyse aspects of the extract using examples to support your analysis

  • make judgements and draw conclusions about how far these aspects create a humorous view of policing. (10 marks)

Example of how to answer on camerawork:
    •   sweeping aerial shot of Brighton pier connoting a glamorous seaside location

    •   bird’s eye view of the small police car driving through

the streets of Brighton on a call-out, carrying connotations such as danger, excitement, and urgency

    •   the use of an over-the-shoulder shot of the beach sign, as we arrive at the sign at the same time as the police officer, connoting surprise and anticipation of what is to come

    •   slow pan / track of the new recruit police officers as they are introduced to the audience connoting authority and power

    •   high angle long shot of the beach scene showing the police officer outnumbered by the group of men on the stag do

    •   any other relevant analysis

    1. one use of camera work in this extract is when the cameraman uses arc-pan when she is surrounded by lots of police officers. this is a good way of showing us she is surrounded as it gives us an angle of all of the police officers surrounding her.

Another use of camera work is when the cameraman uses a birds eye view of the police car driving through the town, this is showing us that the police car is on pursuit of someone. this is good camera work as it is showing this bright police car driving through buildings with not really colourful buildings.

    2. The extract creates a humorous view of policing when it shows us the woman dancing around taking her clothes off in front of the police officer as he is a rookie police officer and he doesn't have much experience in policing and hasn't really made an arrest in his life. this therefore is very awkward for the new police officer as he is falsely getting accused of rape and it is not very fun for him as he is also getting filmed and he is made to look like a bad person, but this consequently makes it very funny for us as we know he is a rookie and it is awkward for him and funny for us. He also looks like a rookie and doesn't even look like he is remotely experienced and the lady who is the criminal and a thief takes advantage of this and makes him look like the villain.

     1. Most of the women are represented as to be interested in lingerie and not the common news as it shows in all the magazines that there are all women's lingerie and it is portraying that they are not interested in the common news.

    2.  Another contrasting example of a woman in those times is the queen when she is looking like the bad person in the second magazine as she has a darker face and she looks like she is frowning to either imply she is angry or the bad person in that specific magazine.

    3. 'So polite this North sea spy game.'

    4. 'Queen visits mourning valley.'

    5. 'Unions postpone strike.'

2 gratifications of video games using Blumer and Katz theory.

1 gratifications of video games is that is supplies people with a way of escapism from the normal world to then take them into their preferred environment which is the game they have chosen to play. this will help them as it can help their mental health by distracting them from their normal sense of reality. therefore this will then also provide more money for the video games company to then create more games with better graphics and a more real video game.

Another gratification is that it can provide people with entertainment, this can help people as it gives those people something to do in their spare time and provide them with entertainment of many types, as we saw with the Lego movie we saw that people were even making videos about it providing us with even more entertainment then we already had to begin with.
